Arizona Diamondbacks worry over starting pitcher Daniel Hudson’s injury – MLB News
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ management is worried over their starting pitcher Daniel Hudson’s injury which could end his 2012 Major League Baseball season.
He will need Tommy John surgery which clearly suggests that the Diamondbacks are now in deep trouble to go even beyond the regular season.
No one knew until Hudson’s MRI reports came after he left the game on Tuesday due to excessive pain in his elbow.
As soon as this news hit the media, several reporters rushed towards Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson, who discussed his concerns with them.
"Many people have said that you can never have enough pitching depth, We're finding that out. We're digging deep into our depth. He wrote it off as normal soreness, I guess last night probably did some more damage to it. He's a competitor. Some guys are more forthcoming with information. They tough it out. I can't fault him." Diamondbacks' manager Kirk Gibson said.
Gibson added, “He has not started throwing yet, but he feels good, (Saunders got) the inflammation out and he may start throwing soon."
Hudson felt extreme pain on Tuesday and left the game without finishing his spell. Later the team management brought him to Phoenix and did complete checkup while the MRI results showed that he needed Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament.
Reports are coming that Hudson’s agent Andrew Lowenthal has also suggested to him that he should seek a second opinion which will help him to judge the level of damage that has been done on his pitching elbow.
Many experts believe that this is a very bad sign for the Diamondbacks. Tommy John surgery usually takes 12 months to recover and if this happens with Hudson, the entire team will be facing many issues to achieve post-season qualification.
Hudson is a good player and having three years playing experience, he has established himself as quite a productive player.
In very short time he has achieved a consistent career 3.68 ERA along with 28-17 win-loss, 304 strike-outs and 1.21 WHIP. Before getting injured, he was playing with 7.35 ERA along with 3-2 win-loss record, 37 strike-outs and a 1.63 WHIP.
