Arizona King Snake question?

My neighbor was breeding Arizona king snakes and just gave me one. He said that they should be fine without a heating lamp and that they could live in our regular climate. I live in California. His house was very warm though and they didn't have the air on. I think. and now everytime i go to get the snake it is very cold and lazy should I get a heating lamp for it anyway??

  1. yeah you should but do not get a heat rock

  2. If it feels cold you definitely need a heat lamp. You also NEED to get a thermometer and hygrometer to make sure you have the right temperature and humidity to ensure your snake has a healthy environment.

And DO NOT get a heat rock like the person above me said - they burn snakes! It could seriously injure or kill your snake.

  3. Never get a heating rock for a snake, they can get badly burned on them, that is for a turtle. Use a glass cage as ur snake gets bigger get bigger cages. We have a standing snake cage it's 5 ft tall and 3ft wide. Front door opening, but we had to get a special lock, because Finnegan (our snake) kept escaping.

Get an under cage heater for one side of the cage, and a heating lamp; no more that a 25w

Snakes r lazy, they spend most of their time hiding. So having a good hiding place for him/her is a good thing 2.

I use a dog bowl. That way my snake has both water and a hide at the same time.

Chose a bowl that is big enough for the snake to feel the sides of it with his/her body.

Never use those decorative trees, it is usually cedar or pine which is toxic 2 snakes.

By the way females r shyer than males.

Our male only comes out of hiding if he gets 2 hot, he is hungry or he needs to p**p.
