Arjen Robben: A Living Legend
Five years ago, if a Chelsea fan was questioned about Arjen Robben’s chances of winning the “player of the year” award then the answer would most definitely be a “yes.” Then the 21-year-old Dutch winger was always an outstanding player and he used to combine
his amazing technique with the ball as he made good use of his physicality to make it hard for his opponents to mark him. Robben is well equipped with football moves and such attributes make him a match-winning player. From the start of his career, Arjen Robben
was simply fabulous and looked “destined for stardom.”
Later on, Robben’s top flight took an early hitch as his footballing career was put into serious question. For four years Robben the former Groningen youngster suffered injuries time and again and because of these repeated injuries, the Dutch player rarely
found his rhythm on the field and was usually found struggling with the medical staff.
In the month of August, year 2009, Real Madrid player left his then league after a very short spell and joined the amazing German side Bayern Munich who back then were, struggling a lot in the German Bundesliga. Many thought that the move was simply outrageous
but soon he started to show his worth in the German league. Robben started to show the world what he was actually made of as he was practicing football under the very famous Dr. Hans Wilhelm Muleller. With Robben gone to the German team Bayern Munich, he was
given a chance to prove himself right on the next day. Robben scored 2 goals in the second half of the match and gave a clear warning to his opponents about his upcoming future. The brace gave him back a chance to prove himself and his re-entrance in the first
team.
Everything was going fine for Robben until the time came when the Dutch player proved his reputation of being a “glass man.” During a Champions League match against the Italian team Juventus, Robben took a bad knock at the knee and was out of action for a whole
month. Just because of his injury, he suffered throughout the league as he missed a lot of matches and played a full match only against Hertha Berlin; the last game of the season for his team, Bayern Munich.
After the winter break, Robben came out on top as he played the best four months of his career. The Dutch winger, Arjen Robben, was able to score 18 goals in only 23 appearances that he made and was able to tag himself with six assists that he made throughout
those four months. With Robben performing so well for the German club, the Dutch winger was considered to be the most decisive player in the world of football as he was sharing the likes of the amazing wingers, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo while he also
added his own flavour to the “game play”.
Like Lionel Messi, Arjen Robben is also a left-footed player and just like the Argentinean magician, the flying Dutch man also prefers to play at right wing as he moves forward from the right flank and draws at least two defenders towards him and cuts them
with his amazingly short, but quick steps. Unlike the Argentinean man and in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Robben is able to score from long ranges rather than short ones. Statistics show that most of the goals that he has scored came from at least 30 yards
or even more; however, the Dutch player has scored many from 20 yards as well. Just like the Portuguese captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben uses his speed and power to out-run his marker so that he can cut in from the right hand side to score goals for
his side. Mentally, however, the former La Liga player, Arjen Robben is a calm performer and even through intense and heated battles he does not lose his cool.
