Despite suffering two back-to-back defeats to Denmark and Germany respectively in Euro 2012, the Bayern Munich winger has not ruled out his side’s chances of making progression to quarter-finals.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 has stressed that Netherlands still have a slim chance of progressing through to the Euro 2012 quarter-finals despite sitting pointless at the bottom of Group B.
The Oranje headed into European Championship as one of the favourites, but are now on the brink of elimination from the group stages. The Flying Dutchmen suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Denmark in their opening tie, and then went on to suffer
a 2-1 defeat from Germany four days later.
Nonetheless, the 2010 World Cup runners-up still have a chance of making progression from Group B, if they manage to beat Portugal by two goals in their final game of the group stages.
Robben, who has been representing the Oranje since receiving his first call-up in 2003, has stressed that his side still has a chance of making their way to quarter-finals.
“For sure there's still a chance of qualifying. We need to think that if Germany fulfils their sporting duty, then it is still in our own hands if we beat Portugal by two goals. But we are reliant on them [Germany] and that doesn't feel good”, the Bayern
Munich ace was quoted as saying to the media.
The 28-year-old went on to express his disappointment over his side’s recent 2-1 loss to Die Mannschaft, and confessed that they failed to defend properly.
“There were periods where we weren't in the right positions. We didn’t have the lines close enough to each other and we let them play far too easily”, Robben concluded.
Germany remained the better side throughout the 90 minutes, and staged an exciting brand of football that Oranje failed to deliver. Mario Gomez broke the deadlock in the 24th minute before doubling his side’s advantage in the 38th minute.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 pulled one back in the 73rd minute, but it was too little too late to change the outcome of the match.
