Arjen Robben says hamstring rehabilitation is on track
Injured winger Arjen Robben has said his rehabilitation is going according to plan in an attempt to set the record straight on his hamstring problem.
Robben, who joined Bayern Munich from Real Madrid last summer, has been sidelined since his country's World Cup final defeat to Spain in July.
The Dutchman was in outstanding form for Bayern last season, playing a crucial part in the team's German league and cup victories, as well as guiding the club to the Champions League final with spectacular volley against Manchester United.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was furious after it was revealed that Robben would miss the first half of the 2010–11 season, and the club has sought compensation from the Dutch Football Association, on whose watch Robben sustained the injury.
"I've noticed that there are a lot of people out there who supposedly know every little detail about my injury," the 26-year-old told Dutchman
Radio538. "So many things have been said that it was hard for me to keep up with it at one point. It's taking a very long time for me to make my comeback, but we knew that when we started my recovery process. Everything's going according to our schedule.
The plan is for me to resume squad training after the winter break. The five-centimetre hole is no longer there."
Robben feels little pain
One of the most frustrating aspects of the injury has been that the player has been in little physical pain as doctors have implored him not to resume full training until 2011.
"I just started running exercises and I'm rather busy at the moment. The injury is hardly causing me any problems and it doesn't really hurt. It never did and that's quite strange considering the situation."
Louis van Gaal's team are currently sixth in the Bundesliga with 19 points from 12 games, trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by 12 points.
The Dutchman's return is therefore highly anticipated.
