Arjun Atwal misses cut at Shriners Hospital for Children Open
Arjun Atwal is by far the most successful Indian golfer but his success on the PGA tour has been very limited. He is also one of the very few players who have played on the European, Asian and the PGA Tour.
Atwal, who was making his first appearance on the PGA Tour since August, had a pretty disappointing start to the tournament.
The Indian shot a very low round of 76. He opened smoothly with five straight pars but on the sixth hole, he faltered badly.
Arjun shot a quadruple bogey on the sixth hole to go four-over and from then on, there was no way back. Losing four shots on a single hole was criminal.
Again, on the ninth hole he bogeyed, but he fought his way back on the 13th and the 15th hole by scoring birdies. However, two more bogeys summed up the day for Atwal, who clearly had a horrible time.
It was a tough task after that to make cut, due to the fact that he was ranked 127th out of 132, on the first day.
On Friday, Arjun had a mammoth task ahead of him but it was destined for him to bow out of the tournament after just two rounds.
The Indian started of nicely in the second round, scoring two birdies in the first six holes but a double bogey on the 9th was the final nail in the coffin.
Arjun did manage to pull some strokes back by birdying twice on the back nine but it was too much to ask for. In the end, Arjun ended up shooting one-under 70.
This score would at least give him some respite after a horrible first round. Atwal also missed the cut last week, at Chiquita Classic on Web.com Tour.
The duo of Jonas Blixt and Zimbabwean, De Jonge lead the tournament by a stroke. Behind them is the first round leader Ryan Moore.
Vijay Singh is also in the mix after he shot two consecutive rounds of 66. The Fijian is just four strokes behind the leader and a decent third round would really shape things up nicely for him.
