As per some unconfirmed reports, former Chief of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket (SLC), Arjuna Ranatunga was removed from the post because of his opposition to the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
The first season of the league was played in 2008 and since then it has gained importance because of the money involved in it. The cricket fraternity is divided about the role of IPL for the betterment of the game.
There is a school of thought (primarily Indian) which believes that the future of cricket lies in the shorter format of the game and franchise cricket will gain more and more importance with the passage of time.
However, most of the former cricketers from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 feel that IPL is turning out to be a curse for the game because there is already too much cricket being played all over the world and franchise cricket is likely to reduce the
careers of top international players.
On top of that, because of the money involved in IPL, many star-players have started to give more value to the league rather than international cricket.
According to the report published by 'The Island’, representatives of the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) threatened their Sri Lankan counterparts to not to stop their players from taking part in the league, otherwise India would not send its
team to Sri Lanka for any series.
"The meeting that lasted for approximately two hours ended with the BCCI adopting a very aggressive stance, stating that the forthcoming Indian tours that have been indicated in the FTP up to 2012, stand unconfirmed, as long as SLC's present hostile approach
continues," the report stated.
Members of BCCI slammed the attitude of the former World Cup winning captain of Sri Lanka and pressurized the Sri Lankan government to change the Chief of SLC.
"The BCCI representatives had said that they had never had to contend with such an attitude with any committees which were previously handling the affairs of SLC and in particular, were very surprised and concerned about the comments made by Chairman, Arjuna
Ranatunga, at different forums," it added.
