Arjuna Ranatunga regrets not scoring more hundreds – Cricket News Update

The 48-year-old former cricketer made his way to the international sport in 1982 and remained a permanent member of the Lankan team for almost two decades, playing a huge role in turning the Islanders in to a power in world-cricket.
The bulky left-hander played 93 Tests and 269 One Day Internationals for the Lankan Tigers, scoring more than 12 thousand runs at the ultimate level of the game, with an average of 35.69 and 35.84 runs per innings in Tests and ODIs
respectively. The middle-order batsman scored eight international hundreds and 87 half-centuries.
Ranatunga, who is considered by some as an under-rated cricketer, admitted that he should have scored more centuries at the global arena. The former left-hander said that he played a lot of crucial knocks for his country but failed
to convert them into three-figures.
"As a batsman, yes, I do. Especially when people ask me how many hundreds I got in Tests or how many in one-dayers - four each," the Sri Lankan captain said. "I remember my daughter, who was then 10, asking me how come I got only
8 hundreds in 20 years? I said go and check how many 90s, how many 80s I have. But yes, I do regret not making more hundreds."
Prior to the 1996 World Cup, Sri Lanka was not considered to be a major force to be reckoned with in international cricket. The cricketer from Colombo however, turned the minnows into champions and infused confidence in the whole
team.
Sri Lanka remained unbeaten throughout the mega event played in the sub-continent, beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the final at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, to be crowned as the world champions.
Ranatunga further added that people can question his stats as a batsman but no one can argue about the effort he made for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 cricket over the years.
"The entire country knows my commitment. I am glad I could bring the best thing from a cricketing perspective to my country - the 1996 World Cup," he added.
