Arkady Vyatchanin and Matt Grevers seize Men’s 100m backstroke gold – Swimming News
Arkady Vyatchanin of Una Gsc-FL and Matthew Grevers seized gold medal of Men’s 100m backstroke on day three of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at the George F. Haines International Swim Center on Sunday, June 2.
29-year-old Vyatchanin and 28-year-old Grevers dictated terms to their opponents in the double lap backstroke discipline, as they cruised their way towards the finishing end for the gold medal. With their astonishing pace, both
swimmers devastated hopes of their challengers in the 100m discipline and secured the podium for the title.
The arena enjoyed gruelling efforts of both swimmers, as they engage each other in a neck-to-neck race for the title. Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end but failed to do so and secured a joint
finish for gold medal.
With their notable forms, they remained marginally ahead of their closest competitor and hit the wall for the title with an effort of 54.47 seconds.
The third best position was owned by Eugene Godsoe of Stanford Swimming, who was 0.22 seconds slower from the duo of gold medallists and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 54.69 seconds.
Similarly, Godsoe was chased by Junya Koga of Club Wolverine-M, who was only an inch slower form upsetting his former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 54.91 seconds.
Afterwards, the arena witnessed exhausting efforts of Bobby Hurley of Tucson Ford Deal, who was only 0.06 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and concluded his race in a time of 54.97 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Andrew Teduits of Wisconsin Aquatics, who was 0.23 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 55.20 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was obtained by Jacob Pebley of California Aquatics, who was just 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 55.22 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was gained by Corey Main of Gator Swim Club, who was 0.18 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 55.40 seconds.
Main was traced by Daniil Bukin of Redlands Swim Team, who was 0.16 seconds apart and posted 57.56 seconds for ninth place.
In addition, Vyatchanin received massive appreciation from the audience for his gruelling efforts while the winners collected medals at the prize ceremony after the session.
