Arkady Vyatchanin earns Men’s 100m backstroke gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Arkady Vyatchanin of Gator Swim Club earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on third day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 14.
Vyatchanin dominated his opponents in the playoff, as he was evidently strong for the title of the discipline. He showed no leniency to his challengers throughout the double lap event and reached the podium for gold medal.
With his alluring efforts, he stayed three body lengths faster from his closest swimmer and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a wonderful time of 54.65 seconds.
The champion stayed in a lead of 3.04 seconds over his strongest opponent, Zach McGinnis of Unattached-FG, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a nice time of 57.69 seconds.
McGinnis was chased by Matthew Thompson of West Florida Lighting, who remained exactly one second behind and submitted a time of 58.69 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder was followed by Eric M Ress of Santa Clara Swim, who remained half body length away from overwhelming his former finisher and clocked a time of 59.18 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Jean Lui Gomez of Naco-ZZ, who was only 0.18 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 59.36 seconds.
The 21-year-old Gomez was traced by Nick C Carter of Westminster Academy, who was just one stroke away from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 59.61 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the race was secured by Quinn Cassidy of Saint Andrew’s, who stayed almost 0.65 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.27 seconds.
Subsequently, Cassidy was followed by Ramon R Walton of Unattached-FG, who remained 0.16 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 00.43 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Vyatchanin was pleased with his gruelling pace in the discipline and shared his plans of accomplishing the same at superior levels of competitive swimming.
