Arkansas, Cliff Lee gets a visit from Brian Cashmore
If anyone thinks the season ending spree in Major League Baseball isn’t being followed up with an exciting development in the sport, the thought needs to be reprocessed. The market is open and with top free agents heading the banners on ‘available for sale’,
hype is peaking.
Teams are bustling to the agents, looking for ways to capitalize on the market and pounce on other ball clubs. For many, the business is crafted with finesse and risk. There is the factor relating to aging players and then there’s the factor pointing towards
experience and leadership.
For a man who knows baseball, Derek Jeter, Cliff Lee, Jayson Werth and Carl Crawford are names that the individual can’t refuse to recognize in the market. The competition to sign these stars are high and for the New York Yankees, the sights are set on Carsten
Charles Sabathia’s old club mate, Lee.
It doesn’t surprise many to see the top pitcher lead the wish list for many teams. With a current salary package amounting to a figure of $9 million, the price tag is high for any other club looking to sink their teeth into the experience the veteran ball
player is offering.
For Brian Cashmore, at the Yankees’ General Manager Seat, the fact is a constant reminder that his club lost to the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship. It also is a stellar fact that Lee was up against the Yanks in the tournament as he still
is on the Texans’ roster. Cashmore will have to look for a way to convince the ace man to join his club and with income tax free earning in Dallas, the offer will have to be big.
However, recent media reports claim Cashmore has done the Yankees justice by going to Arkansas to meet up with Lee and his agent, Darek Braunecker. Historically, this represents a move to sign the veteran over to the Yankees but it is believed the deal
has not been discussed in great detail.
What is known is that the player has been given a priority in the negotiating round. For Cliff the objective will be to pen a 6–7 year deal with the big East club.
Cashmore was responsible for reeling over Sabathia and Mark Teixeira. From what history tells, it seems the deal can come through and when it does happen, it will most likely happen quickly.
