Arkansas Razorbacks’ Ryan Mallett healing quickly
Arkansas Razorback starting quarterback Ryan Mallett is said to be improving quickly from a concussion he suffered during his team’s loss to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday 16 October.
It was assumed that Mallett would be out for at least a week after he suffered the injury. However, the club is saying that he has not displayed any symptoms the last two days and is expected to practice again on Tuesday 19 October.
Razorbacks’ head coach Bo Petrino said that the youngster was feeling as good he could have hoped on Monday. Nevertheless, he went on to say that concussions are difficult to read and they will have to monitor his progress throughout the week.
Mallett has been the key to Arkansas' offence. The junior’s strong throwing arm has helped the club to develop one of the nation’s best passing games. The Razorbacks' passing offence has been so effective that the team is currently ranked second in the nation
in yards per game with 366.3.
Nevertheless, if Mallett is unable to play in his team’s next game against the Mississippi Rebels on Saturday 23 October, the job will fall to back-up Tyler Wilson, who filled in after Mallett was forced out of the game against Auburn. Wilson was able to
come in and lead the Razorbacks to 10 points.
The coaching staff was impressed with Wilson’s effectiveness in their week seven engagement. Petrino spoke about the youngster’s performance.
“[Wilson] did a real nice job of executing his progressions. He stood in there and took a couple of shots and completed passes and showed a tremendous amount of toughness. He gave us an opportunity to be in a position to win.”
Regardless of Wilson’s play it is clear the club would like to get Mallett back in time for their week eight game.
So far this season with the Razorbacks, Mallett has managed 1,844 passing yards and 14 touchdowns.
