Question:

Arkansas laws on different weapons?

I'm a security officer for a rather large location, and I work overnight. I am the only employee for a fairground and RV Park that works overnight, meaning I am solo every night. Backup comes in the form of calling the local PD and awaiting help.

Now, as most rent-a-cop jobs are, it's no more than a glorified babysitter. My concern is the area is dimly lit at best, and there actually is quite a bit of activity I have to step in on.

What are my options as far as arming myself within Arkansas law? I am 18, so a firearm isn't really on the table. I'm not sure of the legality of pepper spray, tasers, or batons.

  1. Pepper spray, and a taser would be your only option, as a baton could be considered use of deadly force it is one step below a gun in use. as a citizen you can carry pepper spray and a/or taser but only for self defense, and not for breaking up fights or other disputes. I would talk to your security company about getting the proper permits and training for you to be able to carry and or use the above items without as much risk to you criminally when you are trying to do your job. Any time you use force you can face repercussions for their use, but could be lessened with training and permits.

  2. Check with your employer. Ask them what you are and arent allowed to have. Even if Arkansas law says someone 18 can carry pepper spray-your employer might say that you cant. (although i wouldnt know why)

They should be supplying you with something like that. I wouldnt be a security guard if i wasnt armed.
