Arkas IZMIR defeats Noliko MAASEIK by 3-1 in a 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League match
A Pool A match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men took place recently in the Turkish city of Izmir.
The two teams that locked horns together were the home team of Arkas IZMIR and the Noliko MAASEIK. The match played determined the team that went on to the next round of the tournament which are the Playoffs 12.
After four long and thrilling sets, the team that was able to come out as victors and get to the top of Pool A was the host tem Arkas. The first set of the match was the only one that the guests could bag for their own as the next three were secured by Arkas.
Both the second as well as the third sets were highly competitive but the Noliko squad lost some of its motivation in the fourth one that ended up in a relatively easy win for Arkas who sealed the deal on the match at the following final set scores, 25-27,
29-27, 25-23 and 25-20.
The head coach of the Noliko squad, Vital Heynen, shared his views in the following manner, “We started well but then had problems in defense so it was not easy to resist to such a strong team like Arkas.”
On the other hand, the head coach of the home team, Glenn Hoag, expressed his jubilation by commenting in the following manner, “I am happy that we have reached the next stage of this competition, our team has played well against a very well organized side
like Noliko MAASEIK resisting to their initial fast play. After losing the first set our players started pressuring their opponents more regularly, stayed focused and were able to bring it home. Liberman Agamez, our young middle blocker Justin Duff and setter
Kevin Hansen all helped much take this victory.”
The match between the two sides took place at the Halkapinar sports hall. The number of spectators that came to cheer their sides were 2000 in all.
The player who was named as the best scorer of the match was the Colombian Liberman Agamez, scoring a total of 29 points.
