The latest internet rumour to be doing the rounds is that Rocksteady, the developers of Batman Arkham City and Arkham Asylum are working on a TMNT game.
Batman: Arkham Asylum was perhaps one of the most surprisingly brilliant games in recent years and its successor, Arkham City did not disappoint when it came to reaching expectations either.
There were many in the gaming community who wondered what Rocksteady, the developers, would do next with the series. Surely they had run out of places with the name Arkham in the Batman universe. However, if the latest internet rumours are true, the next
title to come out of the studio may be swapping bats for turtles.
A number of sources on the World Wide Web are reporting that Rocksteady are working on bringing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back to video gaming life in what is set to be AAA title.
Reports are indicating that the game will add a dark layer over the usual light atmosphere that one associates with the reptiles, though there will be some element of comedy retained to have some link with the TMNT of old.
Since we are so far into the rumour there would be no harm in going even deeper in what is part speculation and part fantasy, though at this time it could be absolutely true for all we know.
Apparently, the game will be built on the same engine as Arkham City, meaning that gamers can expect the same dark, gritty atmospheric graphics and ambiance from the game to translate onto the latest venture as well.
Also in the rumour were indications that the game could very well release on next generation consoles as well, with the Nintendo Wii U version set to make use of the touch screen controller of the console.
As for the characters, it seems that the entire cast and crew of the popular series will be making it on to the latest game with Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo all set to feature as playable characters.
As for how this will work out, we imagine that it will be similar to how players could control both Catwoman and the caped crusader in Arkham City.
The title for the game is also rumoured to be “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis”, which sounds pretty believable if you ask us.
At the moment it all sounds too good to be true, though deep down inside we are sure that everyone is hoping and praying that is.
One small problem could be the fact that Rocksteady promised to release episodic content for Arkham City and one has to wonder how the studio could possibly juggle both projects at the same time.
Either way, the news is sure to excite a large number of gamers who want nothing more but to eat pizza and kick some hind quarters.
