Question:

Arm problem ?

I was playing a pick-up game today with my friends & I was pitching. And by the time the 5th inning rolled around, my arm started killing me. It seems I can't go more than 4 innings without blowing out my arm. Idk what it is. I work out every single day & go lifting at the YMCA at least once a week. Do you have any suggestions ?

  1. keep your elbow above your shoulder. You are probably dropping your arm to low and that is putting stress on your shoulder.  Do more stretching exercises.

  2. see a doctor

  3. You may have damaged your rotary cuff/cup.

Been there, done that...trying for a fast-ball, got it fixed.  Now the other arm needs a doc.  Go figure.

  4. Your arm needs some better conditioning. One thing people don't understand is that baseball pitching is not a natural arm motion. Fast-pitch softball pitching is. Thats why those crazy women pitch like every game.

I would suggest stretching better. Icing your arm after everytime you pitch and run to break up the glactic acid in your shoulder.

I'm currently a college pitcher on a ACC team in NC and throw around 91 from the left side. I currently hold the school record for most strikeouts in a season and per game.

After reading a little more into your question. Since you don't play often, your pain is normal. Just give it some ice and go from there. Just stretch more next time. Have fun.

  5. take a break from lift for just one week you're over working your arm and after all you shouldn't be lifting during your season

  6. well whatever you end up doing don't get your arm damaged.  The only thing that I can think of is that the pitch count is high or its really hot out and you are dehydrated.
