Relatives of people who lost their lives in the Armand Cesari Stadium in Bastia on May 5, 1992, have written a book to remember the 20th year of the tragic incident in Bastia
No one in France has forgotten the scenes that happened almost 20 years ago. This Saturday, a group of journalists from the Union Of Sports Journalists in France have united themselves to write a book entitled “Furiani 20 years” to commemorate the events
that happen on the tragic evening in Bastia.
The authors of the book have collected the poignant testimonies of relatives of victims and actors who lost their lives on May 5, 1992. Their story talks about an evening that has scarred their lives.
The book is priced at 15 Euros and will finance the purchase of hospital beds for hospitals in Marseille and Corsica.
The disaster happened in Bastia, a French Island of Corsica at the Armand Cesari Stadium. 18 people lost their precious lives when one of the stands collapsed.
On that evening, SC Bastia were set to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899. At that time, Marseille were considered to be the best side in France and the Bastia management wanted to make full use of the presence of the French
giants by adding a large capacity stand that would increase the number of seats by up to 50%.
However, the project was approved by the local authorities without any restrictions. Before the game had started, the stand collapsed and left 18 people dead and almost 2000 people injured.
In 1992, Mario Albano was the section editor for Le Provence. Now, he is a special correspondent to the journal.
Albano was supposed to cover the game from the cursed stand but chose not to go there. however, the journalist saw the stand collapse in front of his own eyes and says that not a single days go by when he does not remember those horrible events.
Radio Sprint reporter Helen Foxonet still has wounds from the disaster to show for and recounts the horrible scenes she witnessed while stuck between the railings waiting for someone to save her life.
