Armel Rancezot, Endika Rollan advance into qualifying 2nd round – San Sebastian Challenger 2011
Armel Rancezot thrashed out Micahel Suleau of Great Britain 6-2, 6-2 on Friday to book his place in the qualifying second round of 2011 International San Sebastian Challenger in San Sebastian, Spain.
Unseeded at the ATP Challenger event, Rancezot showed great temperament and clay court skills in a match that lasted for only sixty four minutes. The Frenchman was absolutely delighted with his effort as he dropped only four games
in the whole match. He will be looking to maintain his current form in the upcoming matches as well to make it to the main draw.
However to achieve similar result, he must work hard on his serve to bring more consistency in his game play. Suleau was all over the place as he struggled to get any timing on his shots what so ever. His serving was the weakest
point of his game and he also paid the heavy price for making too many unforced errors in the match. Making five double faults at crucial moments, he really created problems for himself. The Brit will be eyeing a strong come back on hi next appearance on the
tour.
Looking to make it to the second round of the tournament, Rancezot made a strong start to the match as he broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Putting his opponent under extreme pressure with his incredible
ground strokes, he raced to 4-1 lead. Playing the big points really well, he made most of the available opportunities.
Firing a blistering serve ace, he set up two set points for himself and then converted the first one with big forehand winner cross court to take the set score lead 1-0.
The second also followed a pretty similar pattern as Rancezot dominated almost all aspects of the game. His serve was superior and he also dominated the points on his opponent’s serve with his supreme agility on the court. Breaking
the serve twice again, he established complete control over the contest. Forcing an error from his rival, the 17-year-old completed his straight sets victory.
Suleau, who looked a bit out of sort right from the word go, had problems executing his game plan. Under pressure, he gifted points to his opponent and eventually wore out in the match.
In another match at the tournament, Spanish Wildcard Endika Villacorta-Rollan secured a hard fought 7-6 (4), 7-5 victory over compatriot Patxi Belloso-Ausin to enter the second round.
Villacorta-Rollan took the opening set in the tie-breaker with four straight points. In the second set, he broke the challenger at a tricky 6-5 game score to close out the match in straight sets.
