Lance Armstrong sued USADA after the doping allegations
Lance Armstrong filed a lawsuit against U.S. Federal Court in Texas, this Monday, against the USADA after the agency accused the cyclist of doping.
Armstrong has asked the authorities to take back the charges against him that he has doped through his career.
The court case claims that the US Anti-Doping Agency has no authority in the case and it infringes his constitutional right to a fair trial.
It states, “Mr. Armstrong brings this Complaint against USADA and its CEO, Travis Tygart. To prevent imminent violations of Mr. Armstrong’s Constitutional and common law due process rights”.
“By which the Defendants would strip Mr. Armstrong of his livelihood, his seven Tour de France titles, and the many other honors he has won in his world-renowned cycling career”.
The 40-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Motorola in 1992 and stayed with the team by the end of 1996.
He also represented Team Cofidis (1997), Team US Postal (1998-2004), Team Discovery Channel (2005) and Team Livestrong (2006-2008).
Lance also rode for Team Astana (2009), Team RadioShack (2010-11) and represented Team Livestrong for the 2012 season.
Armstrong holds the record of winning the maximum number of seven Tour de France events right throughout 1999-2005 and also bagged 22 stages at the contest.
USADA announced to charge the cyclist with doping on June 30, 2012 and Armstrong has the option to accept the sanctions, which usually is a suspension from a race.
The firm also has the authority to disqualify the athlete from his previous titles which has been observed in the recent cases.
The CEO of USADA, Travis Tygart stated on the matter, "USADA was built by athletes on the principles of fairness and integrity”.
“Like previous lawsuits aimed at concealing the truth, this lawsuit is without merit. And we are confident the courts will continue to uphold the established rules which provide full constitutional due process”.
Lance also holds one gold and a bronze medal to his account, the gold medal he earned during the 1993 World Championships and the bronze during the Men’s Time Trial during the 2000 Olympic Games.
Armstrong is amongst the strongest sports figure across the United States of America and his inclusion in such a scandal will definitely hurt his fans within the country and across the globe.
