My boyfriend just went down to Ft Benning for Infantry training.

1.) He said the only people he is going to write is me, his dad, mom and brother's wife. Will he have time each week to write us all, or just one of us at a time?

2.) How do they earn time to use the phone? And how much time do they get on the phone to talk? And can they call say me and his dad in one setting?

3.) Since he is there for 14 weeks, I've been told he'll have a family weekend before graduation, can I being his girlfriend sign him out? or only family members can?

4.) I told Drill Seg.'s look thru their mail, but do they read the letters? Or will that be kept private and only for my boyfriend to read?

Thanks

  1. 1.  He will have limited time to write.

    2.  I got 10 minutes three times when I was in basic.  You can split it up.

    3.  I don't remember any signing out.  Are his parents not going?

    4.  They won't read the letters.  No one has time to read the amount of mail basic trainees get.

  2. OK,  here is the answers that you want.  I AM a Drill Sergeant at Fort Benning.  Will he have time,,,, NO,,, during the first few weeks he will get approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour a night for himself and I am taking that time as well... As the cycle progresses yes he will have time, it will be around week 5-6 and later.  The regulation says I have to let him use the phone within the first 72 hours,  I give my privates 2 minutes to use the phone.  After that, I don't have to let them use the phone the rest of the cycle if I don't want to.  They have to earn the privledge of phones,,,, far and few between.  He will get about a 2 day pass between "basic" and "ait" of OSUT.  This will be about week 8.  Nobody "signs" him out, he will be free for the weekend.  Then the day before graduation he will have a family day which will be a pass for about 8 hours.  We DO NOT look through their mail,,,, however,,, if he leaves it out say under a pillow,,,, in an unsecured wall locker etc.,, it could be read....  As someone else said,,, if you want it to be truly private,,, I wouldn't put it in a letter....... letters have a way of being shared amongst the privates,,,, that's what I would worry about.... we as Drill Sergeants have much better things to do than go through privates mail.

  3. 4) Don't Put Anything In Writing You Don't Want The World To Know.

  4. 1st answer. They get 1 hr of free time each night and 4 hours on sundays and holidays.

2nd answer. They can earn time if the company commander feels like they have done a good job doing something, they can call one person in a sitting, if they are lucky they will get to use the phone once while they are there.

3rd answer. I am not sure, But I think it would have to be a family member unless you were his wife.

4th answer. They do go through the mail for items. Do not send anything but letters, even if it a birthday or anything. Just write letters he will get in trouble. They will not read them as far as i know.

    Hope that helps.
