So my ex-girlfriend who is in Oregon is dating this guy who is in the Army National Guard and he lives in Missouri. I was wondering if he left before a court date (which is their plan), can he get into a lot of trouble? If so how much?

  1. Failure to show up in court is "contempt of court" and good for a bench warrant for arrest, enforceable nationwide.  Fines are dependent on the jurisdiction and how unhappy the judge is, possibly as much as $1000.

  2. Well if he lets his unit know about the court date then it will get worked out.  They can push the date forward so he will make it, they can push it back to after he returns (used alot in civil cases and minor or traffic crimes), or he can work with the court to be represented by his attorney alone (used in civil cases), if it is a serious offense he will not be allowed to leave the country until it is taken care of.
