Army Ranger Medic question

I have a friend that is leaving to be a health care specialist in the US Army. He has an option 40 in his contract. He was wondering if everything goes well and he gets through RIP, will he have to take a special ops medic course? Or any other medic course for that matter? He was just wondering, his recruiter said no but he was under the impression that there was an extra course. Thanks.

  1. The thing about the military is the they can change your MOS whenever they want to. If Combat medic is short they could change his MOS if there are enough people coming in for that job....There are always chances of him getting trained in other fields...My hubby is Field artillery, but they dont need that any more so they changed him to Infantry! Its that easy!

Sorry if that wasnt much help!! I have 2 combat medic friends and Ive never heard them say anything about special ops training...special ops is a whole nother area of the military!

  2. All the Ranger op means is that you get the opportunity to attend the course. The majority of guys who are tabbed never actually serve in the Ranger regiment. Your friend will attend his AIT and then get his shot at getting tabbed. The SF medic course is only for those who have made it through the SF "Q" course and it is like a super advanced AIT.

  3. Yes. If your friend has enlisted as a Medic with RIP in his contract... this is what will happen:

He will go to BASIC, AIT, Airborne, then RIP. If he successfully passes RIP, he will be assigned to HQ at the 75th Ranger Regiment, where he may wait for nearly a year before being sent to SOCM (Special Operations Combat Medic) course.

All Ranger and Special Forces medics are required to attend SOCM and successfully graduate before being able to perform your duties as a special operations combat medic. However, like I said... there is a waiting period for those medics who graduate RIP and are waiting around to attend SOCM. And SOCM is almost a year long course in it self. That is why Ranger/Special Forces medics are the best in the world.

If you friend graduates RIP but fails SOCM, he will be released from the 75th Ranger Regiment.

BTW: SOCM is located at Ft. Bragg, NC

That recuiter is a tard and knows nothing about the 75th Ranger Regiment.
