Army Reserve to Active Duty?

Do Army Reserve Units let you switch from the Reserves to Active Duty after coming to the unit only months before? Say you have a fiance and daugter in Germany and it would take you months and maybe even a year or longer to get them to the States with you, and so you decided to go Active to go be with them. Would the unit let you go and would it be possible for you to get Germany if your fiance and child are there???

  1. Yes. Contact the Seventh Army ATC in Grafenwoehr, Germany. Talk to their recruiting and retention NCO. He will tell you what to do. I tell you 7th ATC for a reason...... trust me.

  2. nowadays reserve unit missions are very critical hence they are less receptive to signing a "letter of release".

If you were to do this, it's best to let a recruiter talk to your commander as they're the experts in this field and have plenty of practice overcoming the objections your reserve unit is sure to have.

by the way, there's a two edge sword to switching res to AD.  Many times, you're too new for them to notice.  Other times, they take the enlistment like a "slap in the face".  On the flip side, if you were there for a year or more, they would need you to remain up to strength.  This could be a negative too.

I guess if it were me, I'd rather lose someone who's new than to go through all the training of someone new.  That's just my opinion and not that of your potential commander's.

and finally, there's absolutely no guarantee where'd you go once on active duty. You would however have one chance at MEPS to make your case.

Then maybe, they'd offer u a job in Germany.  Sucks to work like this because u might have to settle for a job that you didn't want but for the sake of getting what you want, you may decide to do so.  It all boils down to the Army strengths and weaknesses when they do work with you.  They'll always get theirs.

    Good Luck

@web below, how the h**l can u recommend he see recruiters in Germany?  And you don't even say why, we're supposed to guess?  Jeesh.
