  1. The Army only sucks for the first year or two that you're in it.

    Why?

Because the first year you'll be training, the lengths vary in which MOS/Job you pick for the Army. You can spend anywhere from 16 weeks in training to over 2 years. Then, once you get finished with training, you'll move to your first duty station, where things are changing and evolving around you again.

Once you get used to the militaristic lifestyle of the Army, everything becomes much easier to do and much more understandable. A lot of the seniors in the military are also beginning to say its sucking because the Army is in need of soldiers, so it is lightening its standards a little bit.

But after this war is over, it will be back to the same old military it once was.

The Army lifestyle doesn't change all too much where you go. You'll wake up in the morning and do PT (Physical Training) then you'll go get your breakfast and report to duty. You'll get about an hour and a half long lunch break and return to duty again (usually around 13:00) and you'll start working again until around 17:00 (5 P.M.) and then get released for the day.

In training of course its different, but that's because it is what it is. Training. Every stage of training you go through, the more freedom you will receive, the more freedom you receive, the more you're going to want. Its another test for the soldier's mind to strengthen it.

I don't know much about the Navy because they are usually on the sea, but remember; no matter the choice you make, you're defending your country and people will respect you no matter which branch you choose.

  2. The Navy can be rough the first few years as well.

Nobody joins to be a janitor, so these jobs are usually done by 'the new guy'. You can expect to do quite a bit of cleaning, taking out trash, serving food, etc during the first 2-3 years you are in.

The biggest difference between the branches it that the Army is focused on ground warfare and the Navy is focused on sea warfare.

In the Navy, your training will revolve around learning to live aboard ship, including fighting fires, stopping flooding, and maintaining a ship.

You will be stationed on a ship, so you will constantly go out to sea

(maybe for several months). You do a certain number of years on a ship then a certain number of years on shore.

So, I'm stationed on a ship in San Diego. I'll be gone for 2 weeks then back for 3 weeks then gone for a month then back for 2 weeks then gone for 6 months thne back for 8 months.

That's the Navy lifestyle. You get used to coming and going all the time and being on a ship at sea. While you are at sea, you work pretty much all the time since that is all to do there. when we are not at sea, we basically work about 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. We also get to go to a lot of foreign places of course. I've been to Australia so many times that is is boring. Traveling keeps the job interesting. I definitely like it alot more than just going to the same place and doing the same job everyday.

Overall, I enjoy the Navy. Once you get past being the new guy, it is pretty good.
