Army/deployment questions....

My husband is in the army and will be deploying soon, and I will be sending him things from home...but I also would like to "sponsor/adopt" or whatever is called another soldier male/female it doesn't matter. I know some of the soldiers don't even really have families at home to send things to them. I know they have groups and orginizations and things for that but I guess I wanted it to be more on a personal level instead of just donations...it would mean more that way in my opinion. Ayways I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good websites to go to get some information or if any of you have done this yourself? ANY suggestions will be appreciated!!! Thanks!!

  1. My husband is deployed at the moment and along w the packages that i send him I also send things to the other couple of soldiers that i 'adopted'

There are some great websites/organizations that can help you a few of them are:

    www.soldiersangels.org

    www.anysoldier.com

    www.treatanysoldier.com

On another note, good luck for making it through your upcoming deployment it will be tough but you will make it. just stay busy and write lots of letters. I found that my husband loves getting actual hand written letters i guess it is something to do w being able to carry it w him and read it over when he wanted.

    Good luck!

if you click on my name it will take you to a page where there is a link which you can use to email me, feel free to contact me if you want some more websites etc I will be happy to help you out

JUST HIGHLIGHT IT AND CUT AND PASTE IT INTO THE ADDRESS BAR IF IT DOESN'T GO DIRECTLY TO IT.

THIS IS FROM A PREVIOUS QUESTION FROM A SOLDIER'S WIFE ABOUT WHAT TO SEND, I INCLUDED IT AS AN ADDITIONAL SUGGESTION:

I used to carry a beautiful small sea shell in my pocket from my gal at the time. It constantly reminded me that she was there, like the sea.

If you have something small and sentimental that you both shared, or something of yours that is not feminine, but reminds him of you, that would be perfect. If it's feminine his buddy's are going to be all over him about it. A cutting of your hair braided tightly is nice too. My gal gave me that for Desert Shield. She gave me a key for Desert Storm, and then three months later wrote me a letter that it was the key to her heart.

You can actually make something like a small piece of driftwood with both your initials on it, or a loving inscription would be nice.

If you want to use a medal, a Saint Michael medal is a good choice for military men; he is the good Angel of Death and the field commander of the Army of God.

If that's too morbid for you, try a lucky coin. They worked for me.

Just be creative and inventive. Trust me, he'll cherish whatever you give him and feel protected and lucky.

  3. No, but is you have'nt talked to your husband about this, then you may be doing a bad thing.

  4. My husband is on his 5th career deployment, and our 3rd deployment together. I take VERY good care of my husband while he is deployed-he gets a care package every week. And while I have thought about adopting another soldier, I have decided that the appearance of impropriety can affect us all. My husband and I have a very trusting relationship and he knows I would never be unfaithful, but others looking in may wonder why I am sending mail to someone else. As well, it can get expensive to send care packages.

Instead, I send extras in my husbands care package so he can share with others. For my husband, I get things in single serving packaging. What is okay to share is big oreo cookies, bags of chips, etc. Things that I know wont go stale because they will be eaten quickly! It lifts my husbands spirits to be able to share and it lifts their spirits because they got something from home. So everyone is happy.

  5. I suggest sticking close to home.. adopt your DH's unit as a whole.  there will invariably be some body who doesn't get  much mail, and they will ALWAYS accept  goodies from home no matter who sends 'em.

I have a hard candy recipe that gets rave reviews  every time DH deploys.  I make large batches and he brings it to the workspace and everybody gets to share.  I also send things like magazines and games from the dollar store and Oriental Trading Company to relieve boredom

there are two organizations that I support in addition: Operation Quiet Comfort and Cards for Heroes.  OQC delivers get well, thank you and thinking of you cards to injured servicemembers recuperating in the various militray hospitals.   CfH  you make and donate cards( they also accept  other donations as well).  the cards then get shipped off to deployed units and the SM pick and choose cards to send home to their loved ones.
