Question:

Army national guard vs. air national guard

I joined the army national guard. I've already signed all the papers and I'm supposed to be leaving for basic on Oct. 8th. I kind of rushed into it though and I've decided the air national guard would be a better fit for me. Is there any way I can switch branches??? If so, what would it take?

  1. Tell the commander,  it is like collage, you want to go to one school, but your stuck in another school.  Tell the person in charge and switch.  By the way congratulatetions on join the national guard.

  2. You might be able to do a inter-service transfer. Check the Air recruiter, and the Army recruiter. If you had a career change and the Army doesn't have that job then it might be easier.

  3. You just need to talk to the recruiters.  If you aren't able to get it done before you ship to basic, just transfer when you get back.  Make sure you get an MOS that is transferable so that you don't have to go back to training afterwards.

  4. Army National Guard won't stand a chance. The Air National Guard will bomb them. Yet another 'blue-on-blue'. Get used to it. It's what your forces do best.
