  1. Older recruits typically get the same amount of treatment as everybody else, drill sergeants notice you if you're lazy, not if you're old. Typically you get better treatment than younger recruits when you get to your unit after basic, providing you are not retarded (not insinuating you are)

  2. look down, no.  But I found it difficult to "correct" my new private when he showed up, he was 32 years old and I was 22.

  3. I was 21 when I went in as a punk rocker, I kept out of trouble until I accidently smiled in t he Drill's direction and ended up doing grass drills, I started crying after a while because I never intended on flirting with the drill as he assumed and the drill felt bad after a while and said I was going to go from doing one push-up and not get recycled. However, this other person in Basic with me was a clumpy 35 year old, and she was treated bad by the Drill, so bad that he told her to carry everything in her locker around in her duffle bag at all times, this was an order she decided was unlawful and disobeded it and got away with it. Even though she did not have more rank then some other people like the Squad LDR, more mature behavior was expected if us and we were expected to lead the way.

  4. don't worry-I went into the Marines at 27, you will be alright!

  5. No, but some older Privates think they know more than they do.  That notion gets squashed pretty fast.
