I want to be a medic in one of these branches, but I don't know which one to pick. I love the water and land, but I don't know which one to pick? Pros and cons.

  1. Not all Naval assignments are on ships.  Also, you might be interested to know that medics in the Navy are sometimes assigned to Marine Corp units.  The Marines do not have medics.  Army medics are assigned to a unit and usually go with the unit where ever they go.

  2. Man up and join the Marine Corp.

  3. Julibell, I want to express my deepest dislike towards people like you.

Any Marine will tell you if you want to be a medic, join the navy and become a corpsman. As a corpsman you will travel with marines and you're there medic.

  4. The Marines are an off branch of the navy, and do not have a medical field, therefore they take the navy corpsman. Corpsman are members of the navy but serve with the marines in the front lines, not a man more respected in a group of marines as a corpsman. I recommend that you get a taste for land and chances are you will do a deployment aboard a naval ship as well. Army is good to but hey, gotta say navy.

  5. That is a tough one. You are more than likely going to get biased answers from people are serveing in thier respective branch and also from people that are just ignorant about the other service. Basically it boils down to which one seems to suit you better. Some times it just comes down to which one seems cooler to you. In this case especially since both the Navy and the Army have exceptional medic programs.

I would recommend talking to recruiters from both services. The hard part is that recruiters generally don't talk much about specific jobs since they are not the ones that actually give you the job you choose in the military. Besides, a recruiter who is normally an aircraft mechanic while he's not on recruiting duty isn't going to be able to give you a fair description of his branches medical jobs.

If you spend some time on the web researching the Navy and Army medical fields I think you will find enough information to make a decision with.

I have to give a shout towards the Navy though. I have always thought it was cool that all the medics for the Marines are Navy Corpsman. Bet you didn't know that :-)  The Marines don;t have Medics. They take highly combat trained Navy Corpmen with them whever they go. It's a voluntary program of course called FMF (Fleet Marine Force)

Another thing to be aware of is, like I saw a guy right earlier "don;t join the Navy cause the earth is 75% water and that is all you will see" Give me a break, do you think I would still be in the Navy after 15 years if that were true? The real truth is that the Navy offers you no better opportunity to see places all over the world.

Most of the Corpmen I know work in hospitals and volunteer to be medics with fighter aircraft squadrons, or on Nuclear submarines or with the Marines.

    Hope this helps

  6. My opinion is to think about whether or not you would want to be in the heat of battle in the army or on a ship and occasionally support the marines on land. i have some family members in the navy and one of them is a First Class Petty Officer and he helps to train the hospital core men.

  7. Neither... AIR FORCE!
