I want to become a pilot, and just recently talked to two recruiters. One with the army the other with the national guard. The army is full time, on the job training..The national guard is part time..they pay for most of the college of your choice i was thinking of embry riddle aeronautical university in prescott if i decided to go that route. I would like all opionions on what path you have went or what you think i should do.

  1. I'm not too sure about Army aviation but I think you have to be a commissioned officer to be a pilot. You should start out in the National Guard, maybe as a helicopter repairer/crew chief for a Blackhawk or Chinook, while attending college since you'll have more time for it and then once you are commissioned as an officer change your MOS to a chinook or blackhawk pilot.

  2. Fixed wing pilots are Commissioned Officers so you'll need college credits.

Rotary wing Aviators are Warrant Officers, so you'll need to enlist, apply for a flight school position, make it through Warrant Officer Academy in Ft. Rucker, Then flight school.

You can do Either through both the Active Army or the Army National Guard.

However, IF you insist on being a pilot, AND if you really want to study at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, then I suggest you consider the Air National Guard.

  3. there need not be any other answers IMO.  The above answer is right on.  GJ!
