Hello

My husband is going to re class in November of this year. We are currently command sponsored in Korea. Our Command sponsorship does not expires until 2009. So I wanted to know, when my husband re class in November and if he gets a school date in the states as early as January do my son and I have to stay in Korea until our command sponsorship expires? Or will the Army let my son and I go back to the states with my husband to find housing?

I want to know because I rather leave with him then to stay here in Korea by ourselves. The school that he might have to attend is 6 months. So would we be allowed to go?

  1. You will be allowed to leave when he does.

  2. they should allow you to go

  3. You need to find out if, while at school, his orders say "TDY en route" or "TDY and return". If they say en-route, that means he will go to school then directly onto the new duty assignment. If they say return, it means he has to return to korea after school before his new assignment. If he has to return to korea, then you probably will not get sent home. But, it's always best to have him pose this question to his command...rules change all the time and it may be different now then when I was in.

  4. Well, I know the Army will only move the family if his orders state "with dependents". If his schooling is 6+ months, he should make sure they do state that (sure enough these mistakes can happen). If the school is anything short of 6 months, they may not move you so you may have to pay out of pocket if you want to go with him. I believe you can stay in Korea until his school is done (less than 6 mo) and depending when in 2009 your command sponsorhip is up, you should be ok staying there until he gets to his duty station after school.
