  1. You Wrote:  im about to be a freshman in college in a few days. im going to get my bachelor degree. ive been thinking about the army reserve to be an officer not enlisted.

A:  Good.  I did the same thing and became an Army Officer.  Let me help you.

Q:  will i be deployed if im a reservist in college?

A:  Yes, you can.  The army can deploy you at any time once you are assigned an MOS

Q:  whats the current enlistment bonus?

A:  Depends on the military specialty.  Enlistment Bonus $15,000 -$20,000 Depending on MOS

Q:  how much will i be paid a month while in college?

A:  If you are enlisted or officer you will be paid per Battle Assembly at your rank.  Hard to know what rank you will enter.  A military pay chart is available on the net

Q:  any other benefits or info i should know too?

A:  Yes.  However, you will need to talk to a recruiter or the nearest Army Reserve Center.  THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A DIRECT COMMISSION ONCE YOU ACHIEVE 60 CREDIT HOURS  OR A DEGREE.  For this, please talk to your nearest Army Reserve Center

  2. There are basically three paths to becoming an officer, ROTC, Direct Appointment and Officer Candidate School.

While in College you can join ROTC and once contracted you can participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) without being deployed.

Enlistment bonuses are for enlisted soldiers and based upon several factors. Potentially you could enlist and receive a bonus up to $45,000. Also you can enlist into a unit that allows the ECS program which will allow you to complete college without being deployed.

While in college you can potentially receive between $200 to around $900 per month.

In the sources I've included links to Army Regulation 135-100, "Appointment of Commissioned and Warrant Officers of the Army" and information regarding different programs and their benefits.

Also, per regulation you only need a high school diploma or GED equivalent to become an officer. Here is an excerpt from AR 135-100 Paragraph 1-6.

    d. Education. Each applicant must—

    (1) Have demonstrated understanding and proficiency in the English language. Non–prior service applicants who are

native to Samoa, Guam, or Puerto Rico or who are not native speakers of English or have resided in the United States

less than 1 year will be administered the English Comprehension Level Test (ECLT) at MEPS. Applicants for

appointment as a commissioned officer or as a WO must score a minimum of 80 on the ECLT (AR 621–5, chap 8).

    (2) For appointment as a commissioned or warrant officer the individual must—

    (a) Be a graduate of high school or school of comparable level, or

    (b) Pass the General Education Development (GED) test (high school level or higher).

    (c) Meet any additional requirements for specific officer branches or warrant officer MOS, as appropriate.

    I hope this helps.

  3. In answer to the question you didn't ask, you can't join the Army as an officer without a degree.
