  1. Life in the military can very much parallel our civilian counterparts.   It's a community just like in most suburbs so with respects to your question, yes, it could be that good.

If I didn't have to work, living on post consisted of the same exact activities I do now.  Get up, maybe go running, breakfast, do a little shopping (on post of course), see a game (on post too) or go bowling, BBQ, surf the internet lol, sleep. <---see, normal life.

Activities on post are even more plentiful than local cities.  Remember, they are catering to a community that has to rely on itself to function so they must have the same or better facilities to accommodate all their soldiers.

Edit because u edited yours:  I used to be stationed at Fort Drum or 10th mountain div for 5 years and that place is absolutely beautiful.  Many recreation activities from hiking to skiing to pretty much anything.  Life in the Army is very much like life everywhere else.  When the work is done, you're free to live your life.  As long as you get to work on time the next day, you can do what you want (legally) wherever you want.  Have fun.

  2. You will have decent quarters to live in, and you do the cleaning yourself. The army will have regular duties and training for you to do, and you must, no sleeping in. There will be good and bad days like at home, but no do overs. It is a career, and on this job, you don't just quit if you don't like it.It is rewarding, and as you gain rank, you gain privileges.

  3. I have been in WWII barracks and brand spankin new barracks.. So it depends on your unit and where you are stationed. Its the luck of the roll.
