Army to Marines do you have to do basic again?

I was just wondering if my son goes from the Army to the Marines will he have to go through basic training again? I can see where it would help, because i'm sure they learn a lot about the Marine history and everything else.

it is my understanding that you would have to take basic over again if you wanted to join the marines, however you can go from the marines into any other branch of the military without having to go threw basic again..

Only prior service Marines are not required to go through basic, I know that include Army, and possibly the other services as well.

Yes. Anyone who enters the USMC (even with prior military service) must go through boot camp.

yes you will have to complete the marines bootcamp even thought you completed basic training for the army

Absolutely. I went from 6 years in the US Air Force got out and joined the US Army a year later. Army basic training was quite different from Air Force basic training, so I am glad they made me go.

Most definitely. The Marine Corps is the only military branch that requires any other prior service member to completely re-attend boot camp. This is essential in becoming a Marine. Otherwise, the individual would just be another soldier with a rifle.

Of course he will..He hasn't earned the right to be called a Marine just because he completed Army basic..

And it helps in alot more ways then history..Army basic and boot camp are not the same thing.

yes. he will go to boot camp. Nobody is called "Marine" until graduation day. He will be called lots of things during boot, but not Marine. That title is reserved until graduation day and then the title "Marine" is bestowed upon  "him/her"  at that time.

I've never known anyone that went Army to Marines, but, I knew a whole lot that went Marines to Army so they could get Airborne and Ranger duty. They didn't have to do basic but they did of course have to attend the other schools before getting a duty station.
