My 17 year old brother talked to an Army recruiter today about joining the military when he graduates. He's still not sure what branch of the military he wants to join (still has yet to meet with Airforce and Navy). Well, he is currently being recruited by colleges for track and field (also an option for him) and the recruiter told him if he joins he could be on a track and field team. What he didn't tell him is specifics....so serious answers only. Does the Army have a track and field team and how hard is it to be a member? What would be have to do to be part of that team?

  1. Unless it is writing, never take the word of a recruiter.

  2. Yes the Army has a track and field team.

It is part of the Army's World Class Athlete Program.

You have to apply for the program.

Basically you have to be a world class athlete to apply.

The qualification to be part of the team is,

    Participated in the last Olympics.

Qualified for the US National Championship

Qualified for the US Olympic Trials.

You have to have done, one of the above to qualify.

  3. dont listen to the un thankfull person above me, the military keeps you free What?.. douche bag.

my recruiter was a nice guy that wouldn't and didn't lie to me.

but as for the track and field... i dont know much but i imagine that your brother would have to go to west point, to the Army College, which would mean he would be taking some classes, not just training. maybe he would be something like late rotc, and become a officer.

  4. To the best of my knowledge, the Army does not have a formal track and field team.  They might have organized events that involve track along with other sports.  He would still be assigned an traditional job in the military and would be subject to deployment like anybody else.

EDIT: I see there is a track and field program like the poster below pointed out.  However, I wouldn't count on it to keep me out of the Middle East.
