Question:

Army wife making a move back home: Will the Army move our stuff?

My husband is assigned to Fort Lewis and are living here on base right now. I am originally from Lawton, OK (I was an Army Barat myself and my father retired at Fort Sill, lucky me, huh?) I have a very close family memeber who is ailing and may need to go back to Lawton for a while. As difficult as the distance may be. It is really the only that we have. (plus we have been throught 2 deployments, so this should be cake.) My question is this: Is it possible for JPPSO will move the things that the girls and I will be taking? How will this effect his pay? being that we have two children (7 and 2) we want to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated.

  1. no.  It is not an authorized PCS.  all expenses will be out of pocket.  if you move he will have to vacate base housing and may not be allowed to live in the barracks.  BAH remains at the current rate.  No Family Sep unless he'd otherwise be entitled.

  2. They won't pay to move your stuff - they only do so for PCS and ETS moves.

  3. The move will be totally out of pocket, as will the cost of storing any goods that you won't be able to take or fit in where ever your husband ends up.  The military only pays for moves that are connected to orders.  While there is a good reason for you to go back, since the active duty won't be able to apply to go with, there will be no chance of getting the move sponsored.  Your husband will have to give up base housing if you will be gone for more than 30 days and find a place to live off base.  Again, since no orders are involved, you will get BAH based off of where he is stationed, and that money will have to support both households.  You don't mention his rank, but am guessing he will be far enough along that they won't require him to move into dorms.  Also, since the move is voluntary, you will not be eligible for separation pay either.  You will be able to use your Tricare..simply be sure to find providers who are in network and/or be sure to register if you will change Tricare regions.

  4. the only way to get them to move your stuff is for him to go to.  try a compassionate re assignment.  your father should help you with that or explain what it is. were you still in oklahoma in 05-08  you look familiar.

  5. No the military will not move you home.  You will have to fund this move all on your own.  The only time a family would ever be moved if not on orders is if they are at a OCONUS location and doing a Early Return of Dependents.  In which the AD member would loose housing, OHA and COLA w/dependents.

If you are living in housing and you go for longer than a certain length of time he can actually be kicked out of it, then required to either move into barracks or live out in town.  If he goes into barracks often BAH is now stopped or he has to pay per day for his stay.  If he is being deployed while you are away then you would still continue to collect the BAH.  That is the only pay that could or could not change.  Everything else would stay the same.  Also if he is staying in Ft Lewis you would not qualify for Family Separation as this is a voluntary one, not due ot orders.

  6. Unfortunately, the Army will not move your belongings back home. The Army will only move you if you must move due to PCSing. Also, the army will not allow your husband to live on post and also pay him BAH (unless he in training).

So...moving will cost you out of pocket, and it will not affect his paycheck because they won't pay you BAH. I know this is not what you wanted to hear!
