Army wives in Fort Carson,Co?

Question

We are trying to get a compassionate reassignment to Fort Carson,Co. I was just wondering what is like life like there? I just pcsed to Fort Irwin,Ca in October of last year and I hate it. But my son has autisim and we need good resources for him that is closer then what we have to travel to here in Fort Irwin. What is housing like? The base? or is it better to rent? distances to towns,etc. Thanks

Hey I am an army wife and I live on ft. carson in colorado. Yea I agree the snow is a little bad. It's only august and it is already starting to get cold it has been raining hard everyday for like 5 days straight. The base itself is pretty nice bland but nice. No trees really or grass most of the people on base are pretty friendly. Housing isn't to bad depending on the rank. There are currently buidling more new houses on base. I think you would enjoy staying there very much. There is a strip mall down the street outside the c gate. It has a Noodles and Company. 24 Hour Fitness, Gordmans, Sears, Starbucks, Ross, Home Depot, Ihop, Walgreens, Safeway, and your run of the mill fastfood and many other places I didn't mention. Overall you would like it and if you don't want to live on base there are nice apartments right outside of the Fort Carson C gate that are really nice. Any other question just e-mail me:]

My brother has been stationed there since 2001, and it is such a great place, the drive there is beautiful! The base is right in the heart of colorado springs, there is so much there, the housing when I was their was so ugly. My brother lived on post in a very nice apartment about 2min away, I give ft carson a 10 but U have to like the snow and cold. but all around it is great, and I no what u mean about ft irwin its in the middle of no where and alot of crime in town, good luck and god bless u and ur lil one.
