The former VfL Wolfsburg defender has agreed a one-year deal and will join the Major League Soccer outfit with immediate effect.
It has been confirmed that former Wolfsburg defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arne-Friedrich-c6622, has agreed a one-year deal with Major League Soccer side, Chicago Fire. The defender has been out of action since last September when Die Wolfe released him
following his constant injury problems.
Friedrich had an injury marred career in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 with Wolfsburg where he managed only 15 league appearances during his one-year stay. The defender was also the part of German national squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup where he
scored his first international goal in his 77th appearance.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hertha-BSC-c39521 player revealed that he also received offers from other leagues prior to signing with the MLS outfit.
While talking to his official website, the 32-year-old further added:
"I am pleased to tell you that I will immediately be putting my boots back on to play for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chicago-Fire-c38795. Despite attractive offers from Europe and the Bundesliga, I decided to jump across the pond and a one-year contract has
been agreed with the Chicago Fire directors."
On the other hand, La Maquina Roja head coach, Frank Klopas, confirmed about the arrival of Friedrich from Germany. He mentioned that the experienced defender will add strength to his squad and will help the young players in their
development.
"Arne is a talented defender who brings strength, experience and depth to our backline. His international credentials and track record in the German Bundesliga give our young players another great professional example to learn
from," Klopas concluded.
This is the first time that Friedrich will ply his trade outside Germany having previously played for SC Verl, Arminia Bielefeld, Hertha BSC and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881. He retired from international football last year after representing
his country on 82 occasions, scoring once in the process.
The former Germany international will also be looking to secure silverware with his new club having previously won the DFB-Ligapokal and the UEFA Intertoto Cup with Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536.
