The Rothosen sporting director claims the amount the Bundesliga outfit spent in the summer transfer window now must be recovered by offloading a number of players at the end of the season
Hamburg director of sport, Frank Arnesen, suggests the German club must raise money by selling at least five starting eleven players. He further added that he has shortlisted the ones who will be sold in the near future.
The Dinosaur signed a couple of quality players in the summers to boost their squad and improve their league standing. Rafael van der Vaart was snapped up from Tottenham Hotspur for €13 million, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Milan-Badelj-c25769 from Dinamo Zagreb,
Petr Jiracek from Wolfsburg, Rene Adler from Bayer Leverkusen and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lech-Poznan-c39779.
However, the club official has now revealed that cash is needed to balance the books. He admitted that this is a tough test, but should be resolved as they spent a lot in the transfer market. He commented that there are a few top
professionals in the unwanted players’ list.
"This is a big challenge. We have invested a lot in the summer," he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former star conceded that the team would ideally want some of these players to stay, but is running out of options.
"We have some big names on the scratch list. We have professionals who we did not want to let go, so it is unfortunate," the former Ajax, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven attacking midfielder added.
Custodian Jaroslav Drobny, stopper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcus-Berg-c23815 will be sold, as their services are no longer needed at the club.
"They have all been informed and I have spoken to their consultants. Perhaps it is better for some than others, but I am just glad they will get some first team action with a new club," the 1988 European cup winner finally concluded.
Arnesen claimed he has told these professionals of his decision, and is happy that they will now get playing time elsewhere. Moreover, even though Hamburg invested over the top, they have failed to make an impact in Bundesliga.
