Arnold Palmer Invitational: Updates from Round one – Golf news
Arnold Palmer Invitational has kicked off on the par-72 Bay Hill Club in Florida, US. The 15th Professional Golfers Association Tour event is carrying a purse of 6 million US dollars and 500 FedEx points.
World number 30 Rickie Fowler teed off early in the morning on Thursday. He chose to tee from the back and managed to pick a point after three holes. He is being followed by Brandt Snedeker, who teed off alongside the PGA Rookie of the Year and managed to
carve a birdie in the first two holes.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson also managed to please the crowd with the opening hole, as he clutched a birdie putt in the centre of the green.
The Masters Champion is eyeing a victory in the tournament, as he said before coming to the venue. He said that winning the title at Bay Hill would help him defend his trophy at the Augusta National, where the 2011 Masters would take place in April.
Two strokes below is a group including the Korean sensation K.J. Choi. The world number 46 has completed the first two holes and has not been able to pick a point. He is at par. Along with him in the group are Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell,
Bubba Watson and Vijay Singh.
Meanwhile, Justin Rose has started the tournament in deep water. He dropped the third shot into a bunker on the second hole on the front and carded for a bogey.
Jim Furyk, who topped the FedEx rankings in 2010 along with the money rankings, also carded a bogey on the second hole at the front. The American professional rolled a birdie putt on the first green, but the ball missed the cup and rolled into the rough.
39 players have teed off in cloudy weather conditions, while the rest of the field is waiting for their turns. Former world number one American Tiger Woods will also tee off later in the day.
