Arnold Palmer skeptical of Tiger Woods change in swing strategy – Golf update
After having faced criticism from almost all sides, Tiger Woods now has a word of advice from the great Arnold Palmer himself. He stated that he did not thing that Woods needed to change his swing and had a great swing when he first started on the Tour.
Palmer, the trailblazing golfer of the 60’s and 70’s, also known as “the King”, spoke out before the Arnold Palmer Invitational Championship which is about to kick off at the end of this week. Palmer is the host of the tournament which will be played at
Bay Hill Club and Lodge, his personal golf club since 1976.
Woods has been battling to regain form for the last 16 months and has dropped down to world number five from the top spot. He has faced scathing criticism from almost all of the celebrated players of the sport but has refused to budge from incorporating
changes in his swing. Palmer, like everyone, is not impressed and says he is a little surprised of all the changes Woods is working on in his game. Unlike Lee Trevino and Lanny Wadkins, Palmer weighed his words carefully before letting go.
“I’m not going to claim to be an expert about his swing. I thought that the first few times that I played with him on the Tour, way back when he first came out, he had a great swing and I thought he had a great posture” said Palmer, “So changing? Well, that’s
up to Tiger. I don’t want to inject anything into something I don’t really know enough about.”
Woods has been working on his swing with his new coach, Sean Foley, and has stated a number of times that he is satisfied with the work in progress. His performance last week at the WGC Cadillac Championship was no less than the much awaited silver lining.
His 6-under for 66 at Doral and an amazing 8-under par for 64 in Tavistock has been a promising change. The 14-time Major winner has also spoken in defense of his coach saying that he will take time to adjust to the new level of scrutiny which he is experiencing.
Palmer, at the same time, also lauded Woods for the kind of golfer he is and said that he has the game that can come to the surface anytime. Palmer also said that Woods loves the course and the sport and he is capable of winning anytime.
