Aroldis Chapman firing up in Spring Training as he perfects his change-up pitches – MLB Update
The Cincinnati Reds are making good progress in Spring Training, as their participation in the Cactus League has led them to a better point in the Major League Baseball pre-season. The club is seasoning its squad members and it seems that one of their top
bullpen aces, Aroldis Chapman, has been given the duty of relieving the club in the later innings of the games. The superstar is finding life easy and he is working on his change-up deliveries at the moment.
Chapman did not take centre-stage against the San Francisco Giants, but he was able to impress management, as he managed to deliver two innings in the relief role. He conceded a run, two hits and managed to avail three strikeouts against the 2010 World Series
winners. Chapman took to the game sparingly, as he conceded a single and a Run Batted In double. However, his second start brought two strikeouts to the charts and ended his tenure on the mound with a positive outlook.
Manager Dusty Baker was fairly impressed by the star. He talked about the pitcher lightly and mentioned his improvement in changeup deliveries.
"He looked pretty good," Baker said. "He threw a real good changeup. He's been working on that. That would give him a third pitch to keep them off his fastball. He threw strikes with it. He threw a couple of good breaking balls. He looked a lot better this
time than last time and that's the objective."
Chapman has been having problems with his control on the ball. In his previous three appearances on the mound, he has delivered a few wild pitches to the catcher.
"He's been kind of like how he was last spring -- inconsistent," Baker said. "A guy that throws 100 mph is like trying to tune up a race car. It takes time to tune that race car up. But he'll get it. He'll be fine. I'm not worried about Chapman."
With Chapman looking to get better this season, expectations will be riding high for him to put in a good consistent performance.
