Around London?

Hello everybody,

I am in London and i will be here for 9 days more. I want to use my time as best as possible, and so I was thinking about visiting some interesting places around London.

I have bought in my country the Brit Rail Card, that allows me to travel without limits all around england. The problem is that I want to come back to London to sleep, so I don't want to push me too much away from here.

I was thinking about cities like Oxford, Canterbury, Salisbury and Brighton, what do you think? Are they too distant for a day-trip?

Any suggestion is well accepted!

  1. Out of the places you have mentioned, I like Brighton the best. The others are also good and quite easy to travel to.

Brighton is a typical seaside resort really, a great city for shopping and eating out too.

If you're going to rely on train travel, then avoid the London Waterloo-Reading line because it is of of the slowest train lines in the country!

Make sure you explore London too though, it is a huge city and you could easily fill 9 days there!

  2. they are kinda far like 2-3 hours away. canterbury is in kent. south east of england.

you can go southend? just take a C2C from liverpool street.

you can go to all those places in a day. but make sure you bring money and a friend for company

  3. All of the places that you have mentioend are very easy to travle to and from london, so you will be ok.

If those listed, I love Brighton the best, it's a great city, so if you need to drop any off the list, make sure it's not that.

  4. Hi dear,

I will be in London next month (for 11 days) and I have planned two trips:

1 - I will go to Brighton because it's summertime and I can't miss it (the beach, icecreams, friendly people...)

2 - To Richmond (by underground, green line) because I have been told that it's a wonderful village. On the same day I will visit Hampton Court Palace too (it's near Richmond), that was Henry VIII's palace.

3 - Finally I will go to Oxford to have a wonderful summer day on the river and to visit Christ Church College that has been the setting of Harry Potter's movies.

    Have fun!

  5. One very popular place is Nottingham. It may seem a fair way from London but the mainline that runs between London and Nottingham can take as little as 1 hour 45 mins.

There are a few websites out there with photos and info on the things to see in Nottingham. One that I found had some nice photos is:

    www.populartouristattractions.co.uk

  6. Brighton is about an hour away on the train, and is typical of a sea side resort in the UK.

Canterbury is also very easy to do on a day trip from London as I imagine are the others.

I assume you will have to travel off peak to use your rail card? Justbe very careful of your personal possessions whilst you are in and around London, and dont leave bags unattended, cos they wont be there when you get back, our security is still high.

    Enjoy your stay.
