The New York Knicks claimed a big win over the Atlanta Hawks last night as the Madison Square Gardens crowd was treated to a thrilling game.
The home crowd breathed a huge sigh of relief as Al Horford’s last-gasp basket came after the buzzer giving the Knicks a 99-98 win over the Hawks, the third time they have managed to beat Atlanta this season.
Danilo Gallinari led the Knicks with 27 points, hitting 4-5 from the three point line, and David Lee grabbed a team high 13 rebounds chipping in with a very useful 19 points.
Wilson Chandler blocked Josh Smith's drive to the basket with 1.7 seconds to play and the ball then bounced to Horford who quickly got it shot off. Initially the referees ruled the shot good but upon review it was clear time had expired before the shot was taken.
Elsewhere the Dallas Mavericks continued their torrid form by dispatching the Minnesota Timberwolves 125-112.
Three Mavericks players scored over 20 points with Shawn Marion turning back the clock scoring a season high 29 pointsand pulling down a team high 14 rebounds.
Head coach Rick Carlisle was full of praise for his forward.
"Every week I tell him how important he is to us and how much as a coach I appreciate what he's done this year in terms of changing his game around. He's the guy that's made the biggest adjustment of any of the new guys that we've got and it's showing up in wins and losses,” Carlisle said
The Miami Heat say they are prepared to move forward without Rafer Alston after they suspended the 33-year-old.
"It's unfortunate because we're going through a major playoff push right now and what we've emphasized since the very first day of training camp is purity. You're either in or you're out. And I guess he's declared that he's out. So we know who our group is now,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Monday.
The move leaves the franchise with only Carlos Arroyo and Mario Chalmers as the two pure point guards on their roster. The Heat could look to sign a backup point guard in the coming days.
