i got arrested for buying marijuana, but i was immediately let go without any penalties. When the FBI does the background check, will this affect my chances of getting in the Air Force Reserve?

  1. i dont think they will let u in the airforce but possibly the marines/army but they have waivers for everything best thing to do is contact airforce and ask

  2. An arrest is NOT a conviction. It may not even be on anyones criminal records, or if it IS....it may not matter that much, considering that they did not prosecute you.

Regardless...I would try to pick an AFSC that does NOT require a security clearance....which would require far less "Investigationing" by the FBI or anyone else doing the checks.

    Good Luck

  3. I knew someone who got a Class C misdemeanor, or something, it was worse than a DUI by the way the criminal system grades it, but not in reputation, and got it dismissed by serving probation, and he got in the AF with a waiver.

Make sure you tell your recruiter what happened because if you lie you will get in trouble. I know there drug policy is strict, I think it depends on how many times you have done drugs.

Let me give you some advice.Reserves isn't that bad, but don't join the military. Take some time to weight your options. They train you, own you, and deploy you wherever they want. Go to school.

  4. What ever branch you go to you will need a waiver for anything to do with any improper or illegal drug use.  The Military takes these issues seriously.

The Air Force is downsizing so they probably won't be granting many waivers.  Talk to a Recruiter and find out.

The other branches have greater needs and will be more likely to grant a waiver.

ADD: The Military does more than FBI checks, they also do local checks with the county, city and state.  If you were held bt the police they did a report of some sort and that will be on Record.  If you paid a fine, that will be on a different record, if you had probation, community service that will be on a Record.  Even if it is sealed there is still a record.  Record.  Even if one go lost there are still other to be found.  Each department keeps their own records.

They will also ask you if you have ever been charged, cited, questioned, held detained by any law enforcement agency.  If you don't answer this truthfully in can come back to haunt you.

  5. way we'll let you in.. But Many things must happen and a long paperwork trail will be with you... You'll be good

  6. The FBI will only do a background investigation on you if you require an other-than-standard security clearance.

So long as you are honest about being arrested and released with charges being filed, it won't be a problem.  The thing that'll get you is adjudicated or convicted charges.

  7. If the police putted on your records then no you can't join.

If they didnt put it on record then you could. so did they ?

  8. It depends how long ago it was. No convicton? Lucky you. But you were still arrested.  Were you under 18?

On security clearance papers you ill be asked if you were ever arrested.  DO NOT LIE.  Lying will zap you faster than the crime! Yes!  So admit it, suck it up, learn your lesson and move on.

  9. Man don't worry I told them I smoke they just told me to quit but I did have to pass the drug test which I did Air Force don't really give a **** about weed.
