Do you agree with the arrest?

A man has been arrested after tearing the head off a wax figure of Adolf Hitler at a newly opened branch of Madame Tussauds in Berlin.

The 41-year-old man was held after attacking the waxwork, only hours after the attraction opened on Saturday.

The inclusion of Hitler in the exhibition has aroused controversy in a country where n**i symbols are banned.

But the exhibition's organisers said they could hardly depict German history without portraying Hitler.

They said the waxwork depicted Hitler in the hours before his suicide, a defeated figure slumped in his bunker as the Red Army reached Berlin.

The Fuhrer was positioned behind a table, which was supposed to prevent visitors posing with the statue - or damaging it.

  1. Yes - because its criminal damage.

  2. Its not really the fact of what it was that he damaged, more the fact that he did damage something. Its Vandalism.

  3. I can see how the chap could be angry at Hitler himself (naturally!) But to be angry at a waxwork is a bit extreme.

They would have spent weeks making that cast. He should have been arrested.

  4. i agree with the arrest its criminal damage. I think it would be interesting to see the figure. Its not as if its going to do a "night at the museum" and come alive at night and go on the rampage through berlin ------> :)

  5. Of course.  people who commit criminal damage should be arrested.

  6. Arrest doesn't necessarrily equate with being charged with anything.

It seems that such an attack would have been an inevitability.

Will Madame Tuissauds in London have statues of the tube bombers?

Stupid decision to have the wax work at all.

Hopefully the transgressor will be let off lightly.

  7. Listen Adolph Hitler didn't work for the Hallmark company writing pleasant greeting cards. This was an historical perspective. This man had no right to destroy personal property no matter how strong he was invested in his own personal emotional disdain for the exhibit he felt. I do understand his feelings but they are no excuse for what he did. On the lighter side It would be kind of neat in a sort of macabre way if for a few bucks people could get a photo of themselves posing with Hitler.

  8. Well unfortunately the law doesn't differentiate between criminal damage for a good cause and criminal damage for a bad reason. So he had to be arrested. I'm guessing it will be a light sentence/fine though.

But also, Germany has to accept it's past, that doesn't mean saying it was a good thing. Just coming to terms with what happened and moving forward. Pretending it never happened isn't going to help anyone.

  9. Destruction of private property is against the law.

So the guy should have been arrested.

Even if it was a statue of Bush.

  10. It doesn't matter who the statue was of, it wasn't his to destroy. He absolutely should have been arrested.

  11. Well what can you say to That?

you might as well .....ban Henry the 8th.....and ...Napoleon

he killed millions of soldiers, ..what about Stalin...or Doctor Crippen.....it goes on....its all history

  12. why did he stop there he should have chop the heads off all the z list celebs.

  13. er, its against the law to deface (or behead!) others property so, i guess so, yeah..

  14. I think arresting him is a bit much, would they have done the same thing if he'd destroyed a Boris Becker wax figure, for example? A figure is a figure, he should be made to pay for the new one, sure, but that's it.

  15. legal arrest  would be OK

in illegal arrest would not be ok

  16. He should be arrested for damageing property, you canot disregard history whatever you may feel about it,,the truth is the truth

  17. I understand his reasons for doing it but I don't think he should have done it. Hitler is a major part of world history whether we like it or not. There are famine museums all over Ireland which are very distressing, there are statues of immaciated infants on the docks in Dublin to mark the vast numbers that emmigrated during the Great Famine.

To ignore or forget upsetting parts of our past is foolishness.

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

  18. He caused criminal damage so yes- whether you think he was justified because it was a wax work of Hitler is another question!

And no- I personally don't think he is right to damage it no matter what the reason-

  19. I agree with it, either way its damage to property

And its true that it is history, it would be like someone attacking an indian museum in america for the atrocities the pilgrims inflicted on them, theres always bad history, in every country

  20. Well it`s still vandalism. So yes, he should have been arrested. But i guess the subject of Hitler is a bit sensitive over there.

  21. I think it is right that he was arrested for criminal damage. He will have the opportunity to explain the reasons for doing so when he goes to court. An exhibition of this sort was always going evoke strong feelings and reactions.

  22. no i dont, i think its too distressing to have such an exhibit

  23. it is property damage,

  24. Yes!!

Why should he pull the head off a waxwork figure people have spend weeks and weeks on, especially as it has just opened!!

    xD

  25. i dno i reckon he should have maybe onlii have been fined or charged ! arrst it a b it exreme for  only a wax model lol

  26. The man involved has committed criminal damage so yes, he deserves to be arrested.

  27. I think it was pretty brave of the germans to have a figure of Hitler there at all, but it would have been even braver to have had him in full regalia giving the n**i salute like he did at Nuremberg, not cowering in a bunker. Every nation has its shameful episodes, the thing is to acknowledge and move on.

As for the guy who disfigured the waxwork, he committed criminal damage and should be prosecuted. It is up to a court to decide if he had mitigating circumstances and decide an appropriate penalty.
