Arrests made after shooting mars Oklahoma City Thunder series win against Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Update
As a capacity crowd of 18,203 and about 8000 people more, who were outside the premises of the Chesapeake Energy Arena, celebrated their team’s 4-1 series win against the Los Angeles Lakers, a shooting incident blocks away put
a damper on the whole occasion.
With the departure of the fans from the arena in progress, just a few blocks away, they were reports of a gun fire.
A 19 year old boy named Rodney Hill has been arrested in connection to the shooting incident in the City`s Bricktown entertainment district.
Police Captain, Dexter Nelson contemplated on the matter and has made it clear that the act of violence had no connection whatsoever with Thunder winning their series against the Lakers.
"All we're hearing from some of the witnesses is there was pushing and shoving in the area," Nelson said. "Apparently a group of girls got into it with some guys. It was shortly thereafter that gunfire erupted."
Nelson also spoke about the arrest of Hill and revealed that he does not have any prior criminal record.
Earlier reports of the incident indicated that seven people present on location had been shot and a pregnant woman was injured in the situation. However, Nelson has also cleared out the number of casualties and revealed that 8
people have been injured in the incident, 7 of them mildly while one person is seriously injured and still critical.
The pregnant women involved in the incident got injured as she got pushed over by the people trying to get away from the scene of the incident. The motive of the gun fire is still unclear and Nelson has stated that they are trying
their best to hunt down other suspects involved in the incident.
"We can theorize, but we won't know unless one of the suspects tells us," about the motive, Nelson said on the matter.
Oklahoma City Thunder representative, Dan Mahoney has also come out to resent the situation and has suggested that the team will try their best to help out the police department in whatever way possible.
He also regretted that the act of violence took the lime light away from OKC making it back to the conference finals. Mahoney also suggested that in order to ensure the safety of the crowd, the team management will look to work
with the police to ensure more crowd control and will make all the changes necessary to ensure a safer environment.
