Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan manager, Rafael Benitez, believes that current European and Spanish Champions, Barcelona, are not the best team to ever brace the game.
Benitez has special admiration for Arrigo Sacchi’s AC Milan of late 1980’s, and believes that the Rossoneri team of that time was better than the Catalans of today.
Pep Guardiola’s men are on a roll in the recent past, having won three consecutive La Liga titles and two European crowns in last three seasons. The Blaugrana are still considered as the best team in Europe, and are favourites
to win the Champions League this season too.
However, Benitez believes that AC Milan which had big names such as Ruud Gullit and Marco Van Basten, were a more threatening opposition than the current Spanish Champions. However, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 boss believes that Barcelona
are not far behind Sacchi’s dream team, and they also possess some of the best footballers in the world.
The Spaniard also hailed Real Madrid’s squad of early 90’s, but believes that even they could not do anything against Milan of that time.
While talking to FIFA.com, Benitez said:
"Are Barcelona the best team I have seen in my lifetime? To be fair I was an admirer of AC Milan when they were playing with [Marco] van Basten and [Ruud] Gullit and all these players, with [Arrigo] Sacchi as the manager."
"They were doing really well, they were very dominant at that time. Barcelona have been more or less the same, and you can see now Bayern Munich or sometimes [Manchester] United or Real Madrid can challenge. I remember Real Madrid
was a fantastic team at the time and they couldn’t do anything against Milan so it was a big difference.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and AC Milan will lock horns in the second-leg of the quarter-final of Uefa Champions League on Tuesday, 03 April at Camp Nou. It will be an extremely entertaining fixture, as the last four candidate will be decided.
The first-leg ended as a goalless stalemate last week.
