Arrubarrena-Vecino defeats Nina Bratchikova; reaches main draw of 2011 Andalucia Tennis Experience
Lara Arrubarrena-Vecino of Spain came back from a set deficit to beat Russian Nina Bratchikova 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of 2011 Andalucia Tennis Experience in Marbella, Italy. With her win the Spaniard has also qualified
for the main draw of the tournament starting from Tuesday.
Vecino made a very shaky start to the match. She struggled to get her form back and over hit the ball on several occasions in the process. Bratchikova took complete advantage of the situation and scored easy points to take the
first set 6-2.
In the second set the Spaniard put up a strong fight making the serve break when the score was tied at 1-1. She won four straight points in the game and started to cause all sorts of problems for her opponent. Displaying some high
quality tennis, Vecino leveled the set score with a forehand winner down the line.
Vecino then continued her fine form in the final set as well and played some breath taking backhand and forehand shots. After putting her opponent under extreme pressure, she played her natural game with confidence and created
match winning opportunities. Her opponent Bratchikova who was in prime form in her previous match against Corinna Dentoni lost the plot after she dominated the match in the first half an hour.
With her brilliant defensive strategy, Vecino was able to save certain break point during the contest. Her serve accuracy was also admirable as she committed a very few errors while serving. The 19-year-old secured 52 per cent
of the points on her return as well which strengthened her position in the contest.
Ranked 253 in the world, Vecino is still new to the Women’s Tennis Association arena.  She made her debut in 2008 and since then has given considerable performances. The 19-year-old will be feeling very confident after defeating
a player who is ranked much higher than herself and should back herself to win first WTA title of her career. However determination is going to be the key if she wants to overcome other top seeded players at this tournament.
