Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas out injured, doubtful for Carling Cup final against Birmingham
Arsene Wenger has been dealt a blow ahead of the Carling Cup final against Birmingham City as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 and captain Cesc Fabregas picked up injuries against Stoke City in the Premier League.
The Gunners managed a 1-0 over Stoke City but lost Walcott and Fabregas to a sprained ankle and a hamstring injury respectively. The pair will undergo assessment by the Arsenal medical staff after which it will confirm if they are fit to feature in the Carling
Cup clash over the weekend.
Fabregas had a recurrent hamstring injury because of which he was absent through most of December, the Spaniard will be hoping he has not suffered the same. If that is indeed the case the 24 year old midfielder can expect another lengthy lay off which will
see him miss some very important upcoming fixtures.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted losing Fabregas at this stage was terrible, he said, “It's a concern that Cesc is injured but it happens unfortunately. He was very upset. I am as well. But it is not his fault or mine. It is part of sport.”
The youngster who gave up a move to Barcelona in the summer was determined to be present for his side in their first opportunity of the season to win silverware.
The Arsenal skipper said he was willing to do anything to be fit for the Cup final, he said while speaking to reporters, “I don’t know if I'll make Sunday or not, but all I know is that from this moment to Sunday I won't sleep if it's necessary. I've waited
too long to captain a final for Arsenal and I won't give up till the last second.”
Wenger confirmed the duo’s injury; he admitted the English international Walcott was definitely out for the Birmingham game. However, he did not confirm if Fabregas would be sitting out the match, he continued, “Theo Walcott has an ankle sprain and he is
out. For how long, I don't know, but he is definitely out of Sunday. Fabregas has a hamstring problem. We will assess that tomorrow. It is impossible to see how serious it is tonight. We will know tomorrow.”
Walcott and Fabregas join http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 and Laurent Kosielny on the sidelines, adding to Wenger’s injury woes. The Frenchman will be hoping his stars are fully fit in time for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League clash with La Liga giants Barcelona.
Arsenal have a 2-1 lead but the Catalan side have an important away goal. The Gunners will need their strongest side if they wish to beat the Spanish giants. Wenger will anxiously be awaiting good news by his medical team.
