Arsenal - Arsene Wenger's January Transfer Targets: Reina, Samper, Lukaku, Mertesacker (Part 1)
A club as big as Arsenal cannot afford to be without a winner’s medal for as long as they have been. Their last meaningful trophy came 5 years ago when they lifted “The FA Cup” in 2005. Since then many top players have left the
club; French midfielder Patrick Vieira, defenders Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure and in the strike department, Emmanuel Adebayor and Thierry Henry are amongst the few who have bid farewell to the club.
Arsene Wenger’s Persistent Youth Policy
Ever since the big name players left the club, Arsenal’s manager has been persistent with his youth policy. He has brought in lot of young exciting players. Although, he has been successful in patches but these young players have
not brought any meaningful success in the shape of medals and trophies.
Now it is time that “The Gunners” splash some cash and buy some big name players during the January transfer window.
Pepe Reina
Pepe Reina is one such player; he is regarded amongst the best goalkeepers in the world since his arrival at Liverpool F.C.
A lot of reports have surfaced about the unhappy state of the Anfield players because of the sorry state of the club. Unless the club improves its fortunes over the next couple of months, many key players are likely to leave in
the January transfer window. These include the likes of keeper Pepe Reina, Striker Fernando Torres and Right Full-back Glen Johnson.
Many top clubs are monitoring this situation closely and will start the bidding war as soon as the club in crisis gives them green signal. The Reds boss Roy Hodgson has already resigned to the fact that if any of his players wants
to leave it will be impossible for him to stop that man.
Arsenal Preparing Reina bid
It is thought by many that the goalkeeping position is one that “The Gunners” must look to strengthen. As the current crop, that includes Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski are simply not good enough for that club, Arsenal are
in dire need of an able man in that position.
Arsenal had already seen two strong bids for him turned down during the summer. However, in January another bid is on the cards should the Spanish International keeper decide to leave Anfield. Due to the fact that his contract
expires in 2016, he will certainly not come cheap, come what may be. It is believed that a bid of around £20m pound will be enough to pull him away.
Fabregas set to leave in Summer
It is being speculated by many British as well as Spanish tabloids that this will be Cesc Fabregas’ last year at the club as a deal has already been struck between Cesc and Barcelona.
Sergi Samper; The Next "Fabregas"
Sergi Samper is being dubbed by Spanish press as the next “Fabregas”.
It is believed that, The Gunner’s manager is ready to steal ‘the next Fabregas’ from the Catalan Giants, FC Barcelona. He is ready to play his old tricks again, the same way he did with “Cesc” seven years ago when he snapped him
under the nose of the Spanish Giants. Now, he is ready to sign the highly talented youngster before a professional contract is offered from “Barca”.
“Samper”, a skinny, tall and skillful teenager impressed in the “Premier Cup” playing for “Barca” which they won at Manchester United. The Spanish media has been full of praise for him saying that he is worth all the fuss. He has
been performing remarkably well for the club and country for the past two years. He has all the skills to become one of the future stars of football.
The French manager is very good at polishing young talent; he will be looking very closely at the situation and will sign the player if he is offered the chance.
